Anand Kumar belongs to a Potter’s family where black pottery is a family tradition and family business also. Anand Kumar always watched his father and senior family members working on the wheel and shaping the beautiful vessels and started imitating his elders, this is how he himself started creating his own artifacts when he was a child.

Anand kumar comes from Azamgarh where Black Pottery is made in Nizamabad area of Azamgarh district from a special type of soil which is used for this craft. He makes variety of products, including vases, utensils, decorative and utility items. There is a high demand for this craft for decorative as well as utility items

According to Anand Kumar the particular smooth black clay is plentifully available in the district. The black look is obtained by dipping the pot into the solution of clay and vegetable. After that for better look they use mercury, raanga and lead. Anand Kumar enjoys in preserving one of the oldest art form of this region.
